The 3rd annual Boise Library Comic Con drops on August 29th! Be amazed and titillated and make your way down to the library that’s perpetually surprised (with that exclamation!) to get your fill of all things comic in Idaho.

I’ll be there, catcalling or rather, calling out “come one, come all,” and waving at strangers. This year I’ll have hard copies of Chemicals for sale and a pen ready for signing those clean front pages. But this is the Boise Library Comic Con, you say! And indeed you are correct. That’s why I’ll be chatting about my stalled, but hardly complete Kali and the latest on the developments of issue one of Subterra, illustrated by Mike Dreher.

There will also be copies available of 6×6. What is 6×6, you ask? It’s a local, Idaho-based anthology put together by the folks of Corvid Tear Media and Mystery House Comics. Every year we accept submissions by writers and artists and put together a taste of new talent in the local comic community. Six writers and six artists are paired and spin stories along a central theme. Last year that theme was “feral” and this year it’s “momentum.” Copies of last year’s comic and this year’s will be available for purchase. Support Idaho comic creators!

6x6 Idaho
6×6: Feral. Come down to the con to see the cover of 6×6: Momentum!

Also, there is a very good chance of nabbing a silly project stewed up by me and illustrated by local artist Sarah Ragan. I’m working on formatting What Weeds Are Thinking and plan on previewing just a handful of copies for sale at the Boise Library Comic Con. Final touches and additional pics of weeds accompanied by their bawdy thoughts will roll out in a final paper and digital version early fall. But if you can’t wait to know what dandelions think of you, come by my table and get schooled.

What else is there to do at this con? Other than chat with me and buy many cool wares from other artists and writers? You can get the full scoop on events and the fabulous seminars and peeps who’ll be there right here. For now, know that you’ll see droids, shuffling zombies, gads of cosplay kiddos and printed posters and goodies galore.

At the helm of the con is Josh Shapel of Boise Public Library employ. He’s running a fabulous show and has these tidbits to share about the impending con:

  • “The Friends of the Library will be selling a specially commissioned commemorative LCC15 poster during the con. The artwork is by local creator Adam Rosenlund http://www.adamjrosenlund.com/ Adam has also recently designed a traffic box wrap for the city, which will be installed either later this year, or next summer. The Friend’s poster will be 13×19, printed on nice paper stock, limited to 250 copies, and sold for $10.
  • To really spruce the place up this year, several team members, with the help of our wonderful pages, constructed post-it note artwork, some of which will be involved in a Super Mario themed scavenger hunt. Wonder Woman was completed yesterday, and is currently guarding the Artist’s Alley.
  • Local artist Jim Sumii is in the process of constructing a “Pikture Booth” where, for a small donation, he will draw caricatures of passersby. He plans to donate all proceeds to the Friends.”

How can you resist coming out? As the Borg say, well, if you’re nerdy you know what they say and I shan’t repeat it.
